Trench Drains vs. French Drains

trench drain is a long, expansive trench with a grate on top designed to collect and reroute surface water. Trench drains can be large and heavy-duty for commercial applications or relatively small for residential properties.
French drains are designed to divert water from foundations and soil by routing water into a built-in gravel bed. The water will flow through the cracks and gaps in the gravel instead of through the soil, thereby keeping your property dry.
